For Parents & Guardians of First-Time Players

Welcome to Junior Lacrosse!

A fun, fast-paced sport that builds skills, confidence, and teamwork for kids of all ages.

THE BASICS

What is Lacrosse?

Lacrosse is an exciting team sport where players use a stick with a netted head to carry, pass, and shoot a small ball into the opposing team’s goal. The objective is to outscore the other team using skill, speed, and teamwork. Often called “the fastest game on two feet,” lacrosse combines strategy, agility, and quick decision-making for a fast-paced and fun experience.

Benefits of Junior Lacrosse

Lacrosse is fast-paced, fun, and inclusive, welcoming beginners of all skill levels and both boys and girls. It helps kids develop hand-eye coordination, fitness, teamwork, focus, and strategic thinking. Playing regularly also encourages discipline, resilience, healthy habits, and social connections, while offering pathways for growth to higher levels of competition.

Lacrosse

What It Looks Like

Junior lacrosse is organised into age groups, typically Under 10, Under 12, Under 14, Under 16, and Under 17/18. Teams may be mixed gender or same-gender, depending on the age division. Training and games take place during the winter season, with alternative formats like box lacrosse available at other times of the year.

Beginner programs and clinics are available, and equipment is available for loan for new players.

What Your Child (and You) Should Know

Junior players will need basic gear, including a stick, mouthguard, protective eyewear (goggles), and cleats. For newcomers and beginners, the club can provided loan equipment to get started. Registration is completed through the club and Lacrosse Victoria prior to the season starting.

Training for juniors is held on Mondays from 5:30 pm, with older age groups also training on Wednesdays.

We prioritise a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment, guided by our core values of respect, teamwork, integrity, and self-belief.
